St Michael the Archangel Church sits in the centre of Chagford and I look out towards it from my studio. This beautiful medieval church is made of granite but there has probably been a church on this site going back to Norman times. Inside it has wonderful timber wagon roofs with many interesting carved wooden bosses including two of the Three Hares. One is right above the alter and is finely painted red and gold, the other is plain wood and can be found in the wagon roof near the south porch. There are many lovely walks going from Chagford, either along the River Teign or up onto the moors; and if you need something to drink and eat there are four pubs and plenty of tea rooms & restaurents. In this painting you can see exact copies of the two bosses which you can find inside the church.
